Air Source Heat Pump Installers
At Horwood Renewable Solutions we have invested a great deal of time, effort, and financial resources in becoming a qualified air source heat pump installation company. Grants are only available to recognised manufacturer registered installers or MCS accredited companies.
An Air Source Heat Pump is a renewable technology that the government are actively pushing consumers to consider. This is evident by the fantastic grants that are available of £5,000 to homeowners who meet their set criteria. Once you have met the criteria to claim the grant then we can help you through every step of the process to ensure that your perfect installation is planned, installed, and commissioned to meet the exact requirements for you and your home.
How does an Air Source Heat Pump Work?
An Air Source Heat Pump is a relatively simple unit, that works on the same principle as a fridge BUT IN REVERSE. What this means is the air from outside is sucked into a unit and is blown over multiple tubes which are filled with a refrigerant. This then allows the refrigerant to warm up and it turns from a liquid form into a gas. The gas will then pass through a compressor and this causes an increase in pressure, which also adds more heat. The compressed hot gas passes into a heat exchanger which will be surrounded by cool water or air, and at this point the refrigerant will transfer it’s heat to the cool water or air which makes it warm. This is then circulated around your home to provide hot water and heating. At this point the refrigerant then condenses back into a cold liquid and the process starts again from the beginning.
Air Source Heat Pumps
Capture heat from outside and move it into your home by using low carbon electricity.
Clean. Renewable. Efficient.
With Gas Boilers soon to be banned from new build properties, now is the time to take action, and full advantage of the government grants available.
Hybrid Air Source Heat Pumps Essex
A Hybrid Heat Pump is another solution for properties with high heating and hot water requirements that may not be able to gain the full benefits of an air source heat pump on their own.
A hybrid system works on the basis of combining a heat pump along with a fossil fuel boiler (Gas, Oil or LPG) The boiler can be either a new installation or an existing one.
Hybrid systems are ideal for properties that are larger, and / or possibly not fully insulated. They offer the benefits of an air source heat pump, but with the added advantage of being able to boost the heat output required using conventional heating methods.
At Horwood Renewable Solutions we are able to fully advise you on the best solutions for your home. We will do this by carrying out a site visit and it will allow us to discuss your heating and hot water requirements, and this will enable us to ascertain the structure of your property, how it is insulated, and also to inspect the current heating system which you have installed. Once this is carried out we will then be able to advise you of what the most suitable options are to ensure all your needs are met.
Hybrid Air Source Heat Pumps
Combine an air source heat pump with either an existing or new boiler. Ideal for homes with a high heat demand.
FAQ’s
Are grants available for Air Source Heat Pumps
Yes they are, known as the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) which runs from April 22 to April 25 If you live in England and Wales, then £5,000 can be available which will not fluctuate depending on the size of the system. Should the grant not cover the full cost then the remaining balance would be for you to pay, however finance can be available to help spread the cost.
If installing to an existing system will new radiators be required?
We would need to survey your property to see. However due to the lower temperate produced there is a good chance your radiators will need upgrading.
How does the grant scheme work?
You apply for a grant and if it is approved you will then be given a voucher that can be used within 3 months. You will then need to find a Manufacturer approved contractor or a MCS accredited installer and at that point obtain quotes. Once you choose your installer and have had your installation carried out, the installer will then claim for the grant amount within a week of the installation being completed.
Air Source Heat Pumps VS Hybrid Heat Pump
An air source heat pump is a fantastic solution providing your home meets the requirements to make sure you are gaining the full advantages of it. If this is not quite possible then a hybrid heat pump can be a perfect solution incorperating both renewable technology and existing fosil fuel back up.
Underfloor Heating or Radiators
Underfloor heating is a very good option for air source heat pumps and is a service that we offer. Please check out our service page dedicated to underfloor heating.
Swimming Pool Air Source Heat Pump Essex
A fantastic solution for heating your swimming pool. There are two options that can be considered.
Firstly a hybrid system which will mean that your pool will be initially heated via a conventional gas or oil boiler, and then an air source heat pump to maintain the ongoing temperature.
Secondly an air source heat pump can be used as the primary heat source, which means that your swimming pool can be converted over from gas or oil to a much more efficient system. This is dependant on certain criteria’s being met, and we would need to carry out a full survey to establish the scope of works.
There is also the option to combine PV solar with a swimming pool air source heat pump, ultimately offering even larger savings, and reducing your carbon footprint even further.
Swimming Pool Air Source Heat Pump
An effective way to heat your swimming pool with another renewable solution.
Air Source Heat Pump Cost.
There are a number of factors that need consideration to ascertain what the cost of an air source heat pump will be. But typically between £7,000 to £13,000 To find out more please initially complete a pre site survey where we will then be able to check your eligibility and arrange a full site survey.
Running Costs
For every 1 unit of electricity used to run an Air Source Heat Pump, on average you can expect to produce 3 units of energy back, giving you a Coefficient Of Performance (COP) of 3-1
Solar PV
Improve your COP even further by running your Air Source Heat Pump off a PV Solar installation.
Photovoltaic (PV) Solar Essex
PV Solar has been used for some time now in the UK and it can be a perfect option to incorporate with an Air Source Heat Pump, or even as a standalone product. This type of system uses sunlight and changes it into electricity. The way this happens is by the sunlight being caught by the PV Panels and then converted into electricity by an inverter which is installed in your home. This electricity can then be used within your home to power multiple appliances, including your Air Source Heat Pump. The electricity can also be stored in a battery for use later on when the sun is not topping up your system.
Whilst some people are under the impression that you need clear sky and the sun in direct contact with PV panels, this is simply not the case. A PV system works even through the clouds so you will be generating electricity still. However it is worth noting that the more sunshine that is available the more energy you are going to generate.
The combination of PV Solar and an Air Source Heat Pump means an even greater move to becoming carbon neutral, thus also increasing your COP from 3-1 This type of system is fantastic for any home owner that is looking to take renewable technology to the next level, and in turn reap the rewards of lower energy bills and also having peace of mind that they are doing their part for the environment.
Photovoltaic (PV) Solar
Take full advantage of your surroundings and generate your own energy from PV Solar to run your Air Source Heat Pump.

We work with some of the leading manufacturers and because of this our clients are able to take full advantage of the boiler upgrade scheme and claim the available grants.
Underfloor Heating Essex
Underfloor Heating has been used in one form or another for some time now, and over the past 30 years it has become increasingly popular.
How it works is be installing flexible tubing under your floor which then turns your whole floor space into one large heat emitter. There are so many advantages of this type of heating source, and one of the main ones is that it runs at a much lower temperature then conventional radiators making it absolutely ideal for Air Source Heat Pump setups.
This type of heating will not only improve efficiency, but will also ensure that there are no cold spots in a room meaning a more balanced temperature throughout the home.
Underfloor heating can be installed with any type of heat source including a conventional Gas, Oil, LPG boiler, or an Air Source Heat Pump, and also a Hybrid Heat Pump. To find out more please check out our service page.
